Album Information From September 9, 2003

For the new CD, Martina once again turned to long-time producer Paul Worley to co-produce the tracks with her. The album was recorded in John and Martina McBride’s brand new state of the art studio, Blackbird, located in the Berry Hill neighborhood of Nashville, TN. Recording the tracks at Blackbird gave Martina the flexibility to work on the songs anytime, day or night even by herself if necessary. The studio’s relaxed atmosphere and customized kitchen offered a home away from home for Martina and her family during the recording process. Martina could even prepare dinner for her family on occasion and the dining room table did double time as a desk on which her two young daughters could work on school and art projects.

Martina tapped some of Nashville’s greatest voices, arrangers and songwriters for Martina. Vince Gill provided guest vocals on "Wearing White," a song written by Lisa Drew and Tommy Lee James and Ricky Skaggs stepped in to arrange the instruments on “Reluctant Daughter,” a song written by Sally Barris and Jon Vezner. Fellow female vocalist, Jamie O'Neal contributed "How Far," a tune she co-wrote with Shaye Smith and Ed Hill. John Rich and Big Kenny (better known as Warner Bros. recording act, Big and Rich) penned the cut, "She's A Butterfly” and the team of Angelo, Brett James and Hillary Lindsey provided “So Magical” and “When You Love Me.” The CD’s final track is a live version of “Over the Rainbow” with arrangements by Martina and Jim Medlin.

What Martina Has To Say

According to an interview backstage at the CMT Flameworthy 2003 Video Music Awards Martina compared the upcoming Album to her 1997 Evolution album.

Putting Her New Music Where Her Mouth Is

Martina is doing her part as she prepares to release her new studio album September 30th.

"It's our first studio album in four years, so we had a lot of time to find songs. I'm so proud of the collection of songs on this album. It's nothing real radically different. It's just kind of more Martina music and more of the very best songs I could find. There's a little bit of everything. I'm so proud of the fact that we have a cut on there that Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White sang on and played on. Vince Gill came in and sang on one. There's kind of a little bit of everything. If you look back at the other albums I've put out you can kind of find a mirror for every song that's on this one." Martina

Background Information and Thoughts on "Martina"
Posted On Martinaville Sep 26 2003

FIVE MORE DAYS!!! I cannot wait! A little info regarding some of the posts: The river mentioned in So Magical is one of the writer's daughter's name. How Far is a power ballad - one of my absolute favorites! How Far and Daughter's Eyes are probably the two main contenders for the next single although do not rule something else out. Martina is going to do some radio visits next week and I will stay home with the kids - waaaahhh - We'll miss her but she will never be gone more than 2 days in a row. I am in shock that Amazon actually gave her a favorable review. Martina is really excited about her Crossroads with Pat Benatar. After reading more about Pat Benatar, she seems to have a lot in common with Martina - 2 girls, big voice, a husband that won't go away, etc. Hah Hah. Being on an Apple computer I am not able to get the song a day from CMT - I hope it sounds OK coming over a computer. Martina sang background two nights ago on a song by a band called "Big and Rich" - John Rich (previously in Lonestar) and Big Kenny are the two guys who wrote "She's A Butterfly" - that album will be out sometime next year. She will be performing on the CMA Awards - not sure what song yet. The Christmas Tour has fifteen stops this year - most of them close enough for the school routing, and Oklahoma City will be the last stop December 22 (Delaney's b-day). The single is doing well and should continue to climb - keep your fingers crossed! Martina is currently reading East of Eden and loves it - I have started it myself (yes we really do know how to read). Life is busy and wonderful and fall is about here - the weather in Nashville has been beautiful this week. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are mixing some of their next album at out studio, but they are not here, just their engineers.

News On The Album
Posted On Martinaville Aug 31 2003

Hey everybody - the last 4 weeks have been insane! The studio has been our second home but the album is going to be finished Monday night (and the pressing starts on Wednesday). The album has 12 tracks and there is a 13th bonus cut at Wal-Mart that has to do with a Gillette promotion. This is the best album by far (in my opinion) that Martina has ever done and the songs she selected are incredible. She really put her heart and soul into this album and I have never seen her work so diligently for so long to make it what it is today. My respect for her as an artist has been raised to the highest level yet - what she does is mind-boggling to me. We are excited to start playing new music in concert - I just cannot say enough about how powerful some of this new music is. I wish it was September 30th right now. School has started for the girls and life is moving along at 90 mph as usual. Hope everyone is Martinaville is happy, healthy and well. Looking forward to reading the posts, as always (or at least when we're not in the studio 24/7!). Take care! John

She's A Butterfly

Posted On Martinaville Nov 16 2003

The guys singing background on Butterfly are John Rich and Big Kenny - they are now signed to Warner Bros. (as Big and Rich) and have a record coming out next year. Martina also sang background on one of their songs on their album - a song called "Live This Life". They are wonderful people, definitely crazy, and are some of the nicest people we know. They should have an incredibly successful career - they have talent coming out of their ears. Take care! John

Sweet Dreams

Posted On Martinaville Sep 26 2003

Martina's song on the Patsy Cline album is the 1st thing we ever recorded in our studio. MCA contacted Martina and asked to be on that album and told her they wanted a "different" version of Patsy's songs. They told us there were jazz, big-band, etc. versions and she should do something different than country, so that is how that came about. Martina is excited about life in general and still the greatest person I have ever met. Hope everyone is happy, healthy and well. Hopefully we will see some of you on the road - take care! John

"This One's For The Girls"

What Does Martina Have To Say?

"It's one of those rare things: an up-tempo song with a real meaty lyric. It basically addresses every state of girlhood and womanhood. It's sort of an empowering little number. Hard to believe, coming from me, I know. It's really inspiring to me and it's fun."

The Lyrics
"This One's For The Girls"
(Aimee Mayo, Chris Lindsey, Hillary Lindsey)

This is for all you girls about 13
High School can be so rough, can be so mean
Hold on to, on to your innocence
Stand your ground, when everybody's giving in

This one's for the girls

This is for all you girls about 25
In a little apartment, just trying to get by
Living on, on dreams and spagettios
Wonderin' where your life is gonna go

(chorus)
This one's for the girls
Who've ever had a broken heart
Who've wished upon a shooting star
You're beautiful the way you are
This one's for the girls
Who love without holding back
Who dream with everything they have
All around the world
This one's for the girls

This is for all you girls about 42
Tossin pennys into the fountain of youth
Every laugh, laugh lying on your face
Made you who you are today

(repeat chorus)

Yeah we're all the same inside
From 1 to 99

(repeat chorus)

Yeah this one's for the girls

"She's A Butterfly"

Martina To Record Song Inspired By Late Teenage Songwriter - "She's a Butterfly"

Martina McBride will record "She's a Butterfly" inspired by teenaged cancer patient Katie Darnell. Darnell is the girl who was in Vanderbilt's Children's hospital that singer John Rich and local Nashville performer, Big Kenny met a couple of years back (she was then 17). According to the Tennessean, after they sang for her, she sang a song, a tune she wrote called, "Rescue Me." Rich and Kenny were then moved to write the song about Katie titled "She's a Butterfly."

"So Magical"

A Little Something On "So Magical"

"As I was listening to the lyrics and wondering if there really is a Kali River, there is, it's somewhere in Nepal but there is a ride at the Animal Kingdom called Kali River Rapids and of course Animal Kingdom is in the Magical place of Disney World!! LOL

Listening to the lyrics again, I just had the vision of the writer walking down main street of Disney World and saying "This is such a beautiful place, don't want to miss a minute of this day, It's So Magical. I feel like I can fly when I see the world through these eyes."

Something that makes you say Huh!!! LOL" Keith

"The river mentioned in So Magical is one of the writer's daughter's name." John McBride

"In My Daughter's Eye's"

McBRIDE'S NEW SINGLE ODE TO PARENTHOOD
Being a loving, working mother of two, Martina McBride says she really identified with the feelings expressed in her new single.

"'In My Daughter's Eyes,' the first time I heard it I was completely blown away. Because I've never recorded a song completely about being a parent before, but that one really gets it. It really captures the emotion and the twist which is, these little people are dependent upon you for everything, but really you're dependent upon them as well for this joy and this light and this wonder that they fill your life up with. So, I really loved the way the song was written and I think it expressed parenthood in a beautiful way." Martina
